Christmas has always been the most beautiful memory of childhood for me. Preparing for a huge party, having the carollers drop by mid -December, family friends over by night and the unravelling of gifts in the early hours of the morning. A time where being away from home came to a pause for around 2 months in conjunction with the school holidays. After a whole year away, the feeling of being back home with home cooked food , cookies baking in the oven and the sound of Christmas songs lingering in the background was simply bliss.
For the longest time, aside from the reflections on the birth of Christ, Christmas was about going back home.

This year though, I find myself in a situation - I'm not going back home. But wait, where's home? Time to rewind. Yes, that's right, I have since moved to Chile with my husband - indefinitely. So on the bright side, I have another home, a new home. With realisation comes acceptance - a good thing to hold close, as a time of reminiscing will dawn upon me soon enough as Christmas is only hours away.
Here in Chile , I have found everything and more that I could ask for - I have a wonderful loving family that come very close to my own. They are everything that defines love, they have reaffirmed the kind of love I grew up with. I'm blessed and I'm thankful for that .
Reflecting on the true meaning of Christmas, it really is about love, a sacrifice and about a beautiful life - a life eternal. The kind that fulfils you in a way that can only be explained by faith .

Thus, though it's not and should not by any means be mostly about gifts, I believe it's a way to show your love to others and to thank them just a bit for a whole year of love received. I have learnt that spending a little, or maybe making something or at least meditating for sanity, so when hubby comes home we ( OK, I ) don't drive him insane :)
or even taking a bit of my day to pray for someone has been rewarding in my life.

So, lets do something for someone, and at times why not something for ourselves too. Come to think of it, it definitely would be nice outside of Christmas too -I love to see people's faces glow up when you surprise them.
It really is so true, " You can't love another, until you've loved yourself". So since I've put up the tree this year and sorted the gift list in good time, I decided - I deserved some pampering! So I went for a Foot & Hand Spa. I honestly needed one, it's been months since India :)
Oh, and I do think they make great gifts too! - my special someone, hopefully you like.
